Music To Write To

Have you ever slipped into flow without knowing it, only to snap out of it hours later with many, many words on page, and a song you’ve heard before knocking around in your brain? You look around and your desk, or table, or carpet, or bed…wherever you write is covered in that warmth of creativity.

Was it the music in the background – your playlist of favourite tracks, or some newly discovered well of goodness – that put you in that gooey-rich place? Did the muse come from the music?

I tend to think so. I’ve been known to put an artist, or album, or a single track on repeat if I think it represents a character or place. I will let those sounds lull me into hypnosis so I can free whatever needs to be let loose on the page.

The trick is finding what will inspire the state, seduce the words. I’ve always believed music is a utility, like water, something that everybody needs as a basic right daily. I believe in paying for it, and I believe in sharing it constantly so everybody can unlock their own creativity.

Discovery is all part of it, digging through crates, finding gems.

Here you go…dig, dig, dig and be seduced.
